Transportation to the Walt Disney World Resort
There are many ways for families to travel to the Walt Disney World Resort (WDW), but the most common means of transportation are a family road trip by car or a flight from your hometown to the Orlando International Airport.
By Car:
If you plan to drive, then we recommend planning the most direct route with stops every 3-4 hours, depending on the demographic of the passengers in your traveling party. Plan to top off the gas tank at this time and give yourself enough time to eat, stretch, rest and relax during each break, and plan on switching drivers at this time if needed. Driving from your home to WDW can be a very exhausting experience, so don’t spread yourself thin trying to cram all of the driving into one day. Everything will be there when you get there, so give yourself ample traveling time to arrive at the WDW Resort safely.
Contact our Disney Planners for additional information and suggestions if you plan to travel to WDW by car.
By Plane:
The other main alternative form of transportation is to fly into the Orlando International Airport, conveniently located approximately 30-45 minutes outside of the WDW Resort. Several airlines fly into this airport, so it should be relatively easy to locate a flight from your home town. In addition, if you choose to fly into the Orlando International Airport, Disney also offers you its Magical Express transportation. This service allows you to go from your plane to your hotel without having to transport your luggage after you arrive! And the best part is – there is no additional fee for this service!
