Segway Tour-(Around the World at Epcot)
This week I'll give a detailed description and an extensive
review of the Around the World at Epcot Segue Tour that I had the priviledge to take while I was down in WDW on my last trip.
What
is a Segway?
-
A 2-wheeled self-balancing personal transportation device that was unveiled in late 2001
-
Produced by Segway, Inc. out of
New Hampshire
-
Segways can travel at speeds of up to 20 MPH
How does the Segway work?
-
It uses gyroscopes to detect movement
-
Lean forward
to go forward, Lean backwards to reverse, Center your body to stop, Lean left to turn left, and Lean right to turn right.
-
It senses
your body movements at 100 times per second so every little move you make is picked up
-
The Segway has electric motors that are powered
by rechargeable batteries so it is very eco-friendly
-
The Segway also features a governor or a speed control
mechanism which will prevent the rider from traveling faster than the software is programed for. This is done by the Segway automatically
pulling the hand bars back toward the rider forcing the rider to center their body thus slowing the Segway down
What does the
tour include?
-
The price of the tour is: $35 for the 1 hour Simply Segway training or $85 for the Around the World at Epcot Segway tour
which includes the training session and the World Showcase tour on the Segway
-
You can get a 15% discount if you are an Annual Passholder
-
The
duration of the tour is 2 hours which includes a training session of approximately 45 minutes.
-
Your check in at Guest Relations inside
Epcot to the left of Spaceship Earth where you will then be ushed over to Innoventions West to watch a brief safety video and begin
your training.
-
Your tour guide will then take you out into World Showcase which (unless you take the last tour of the day) will be
free of guests.
-
You will get to not only ride around the World Showcase Lagoon but actually ride through many of the pavillions using
bridges, pillars, buildings, gardens and many other landscaping areas as somewhat of an obstacle course.
-
Your tour guide will also
provide you with lots of detailed facts and information about World Showcase and the various pavillions.
-
About halfway through the
tour they will stop (we stopped in Italy) for a breif break and/or photo opportunity and your tour guide will gladly take pictures
of you on the Segway at this point. (It should be noted that this is the only point of the tour that you are allowed to take pictures).
