Orlando to have giant wheel constructed
resemblent of the London Eye located in England
A Singapore company is expected to
announce the construction of a Giant Wheel at Orlando's International Drive.
The 400 foot tall Great Orlando Wheel
will be built on a 20 acre site adjacent to the
Orange County Convention Center.
Its 6503 Westwood Boulevard address places it
five minutes away from Interstate 4 and SR 528.
Resembling a ferris wheel, the Great Orlando Wheel
will have 24 'flight capsules.
Each of the climate controlled glass units will measure approximately
38 x 16 feet and will enable the passengers to move about duringthe 30 minute ride or relax on the mid-placed seating.
The capsules can accommodate up to 40 guests and will provide panoramic views
of the Orlando theme parks, downtown Orlando, area waterways, fireworks and resorts. During the ride, a state of the art audio/visual
system will highlight the points of interest.
In addition to the Great Orlando Wheel, an 80,000 square foot 'Flight Terminal' will
be built featuring restaurants, a bar and shops. It is estimated that the Great Orlando Wheel will open in 2010. The international
team responsible for its construction designed it to withstand the severe weather that the region may experience.
