Greg the Global Reporter's trip to Disneyland Hong Kong
Part 1
Hong Kong Disneyland is the smallest of all the Parks and the most
ask question I have heard is "is it a one or two day park" and I say yes to both.
You can see everything in one day but I would take
two and be slow about it and relax spend time at the hotel pool and the park.
My first day at the park started on Monday I got to
the park around 3:00pm and it was pouring down rain and me with out any umbrella. But the true Seattlite I am who needs it right Johnathan!
Wrong! Where the bus arrives to the entrance is about a 5 min. walk, I look liked a drowned rat. Hint to Hong Kong Disney have thing
that you need in the rain for sell by the bus stops you make a killing. Rule one at Hong Kong Disney have a umbrella with you at all
time you never know when it's going to rain.
So after I got my Mickey umbrella the first thing was to watch the Disney on Parade.
So at 3:15pm the announcement is made do to the rain the Disney on Parade is canceled. In it's place is the Disney Rainy Day Parade
which take about 5 min to go by. The Disney Characters are on a train with two cars. Characters wave to all the water log guests as
they are in their rain gear and under the roof of the train cars.
So after the parade I headed for something under a roof, so my first
stop was tomorrowland and Buzz Lightyear Asto Blaster. I need to shoot something. The ride is just like the other parks but the good
thing is, you can hold the gun up and shoot. Not telling you my score. And they don't have your picture on the ride at the end.
Next
was the need for food I stopped at Starliner Diner. They have burgers, fried chicken, salads and soda. I had the bbq wings and a salad
which was vary nice. All together with a soda was around $10.50 not bad for Disney. Yes they do have American type food at the park.
It stop raining but still in the mood for indoor, so next stop is The Golden Mickeys. This is a stage show with music from Disney
films (Lion King,Tarzan and other films) Now it was a fun show to see but the talking parts are in Cantonese and the Singing is in
English. But they do have, on the right side of the stage the English translation on a TV screen. It was a fun show to see.
Next stop
was Mickey's PhilharMagic love this film enough said. Yes it's in English.
By this time it was time for Glow in The Park Halloween
Parade. Fun Fun Fun. The Light are turn down and the black light come on. Jack Skellington, together with his creepy Pumpkin Men,
leads the procession with Dr. Finkelstein's Lab is the next float. Jack is about 20 feet tall and can move his head to the left or
right and lean down to look at guest. You can see the pictures on my Flicr site.
When the parade was done I left the Park didn't stay
for the Fire Works. But did watch them from my hotel you can see the top of Space Mt. from my room. The music can be heard from your
tv in your room and watch them out the window it was great.
That's it for Part 1 more to come. My Flickr account is http://www.flickr.com/photos/gregglobalreporter/ you
can see all my picture there.
Part 2
Now that I am home, how I want now to go to Tokyo Disney.
Hong Kong Disney is like going
back to DisneyLand in the early 60's when I was a kid. It's Disney Basic, just the Tea Cup, Dumbo, Winnie The Pooh, Jungle Cruise,
Main Street, The Flying Rocket Ship, and Autopia. With the add current rides like Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear, Mickeys PhilharMagic,
and Festival of the Lion King. Yes it the basic Disney but it's going to be growing Its only been open 2 years now.
The First of next
year It's a Small World well open and more well be added. This is the start for a another great Disney Park.
I think Disney hands
where tied on this unlike Disney Tokyo. At Disney Tokyo the Imagineer said this is going to be the cost. The Company running Disney
Tokyo said ok but here more money do it the way it should be done. Thats not how they did it at Hong Kong Disney and it shows.
The
big theme park in Hong Kong is Ocean Park and Disney is like Universal Studios in Orlando. People want rides like Splash Mt., Tower
of Terror etc. They need the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean.
I hope that they well put more rides in over the next years.
But right now it's just basic Disney.
Is it worth going yes it is for a day or two. They need more for people to do for them to stay
long and spend money.
On the note of hidden Mickeys. I was unable to see any but I don't see them a WDW either. I guess you have to
have the good eye sight to see them witch I don't. I asked a CM, yes they are there. Note: Not really into hidden Mickey's.
All CM
speak English but some time it's hard to understand just take your time and you get the jest of it. All the rides are in English.
The Shows like The Golden Mickey, they speck in Cantonese and the singing is done in English in English. Animation Academy is the
only attraction that is spoken in Cantonese.
They do have Fastpass at The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Space Moutain and Buzz
Lightyear Astro Blasters.
I checked out City Hall they have the Birthday Pin, Honeymooner Pin.
Food at the parks have a lot of American
type food. Hot Dogs,Burgers, Corn on the cob, Smoked Turkey Leg (not as big as at WDW), Pizza, Frys and alot more. Also Asian Food.
Note: The Asian food is not like what you get in the States. (Which out Donald they love their duck lol)
Wait time on the day I was
there was at the most 20 min. but most rides you could just walk on. During the time I was at the park is their slow season.
