We love the Storyteller Cafe in the Grand Californian Hotel and Disney's California Adventure.  The atmostphere is very relaxing and warm.  The service is excellent.  Personally, I have had the filet mignon that last couple of visits, but the salmon is also excellent.  Our whole family loves going here as often as possible.  You'll definitely need a reservation at prime dinner time, so call ahead, but it's well worth it.

I've seen Samantha Brown eat here on her Great Hotels episode at the Grand Californian.
It looks like a great place to dine. In my opinion, it looks like a toned down Whispering Canyon Cafe, because I'm guessing the waiters don't yell?

I had the dinner buffet there a few months back and it was very good.  Nice atmosphere, kinda loud but not overly so.  Service was great and I would go there again.

I have only been to storytellers for breakfast, cause it the only charather breakfast we hadn't done yet.  We saw the bears of disney and that was it, very little charater interacation. It was interest that u could do either buffet or planted. But for my money i am gonna stick with Goofy's Kitchen

I've done Storyteller's Cafe now three times through two trips to Disneyland. I've done the breakfast buffet twice and it is a hearty breakfast and you also get Chip & Dale, Koda and Kenai and Rafiki. It is not a buffet that is entirely kid based so I've found it more enjoyable than say a 1900 Park Fare or Goofy's Kitchen. Don't get me wrong I like the Mad Hatter and Alice interactions that you'll have in the kid based character buffets but is inot meant to be that way. As for interaction, if you go there like we did the last time at 7:00am, you will have a LOT of character interaction. One of the bears was trying to spoon with me at one point and also they went after a camp conciliar who threw a fish at them. I've also been there for the aforementioned dinner buffet and it was good. It was a nice relaxing way to cap off a day in Disney's California Adventure.
